www.financialveritas.com The challenge for management of both private and public companies is to determine how much uncertainty to accept as it strives towards achieving the organization's objectives and delivering value to its stakeholders. The solution to this challenge is the establishment of an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) system and processes that effectively identify, assess, and manage risk within acceptable levels. The COSO Enterprise Risk Management -- Integrated Framework is designed to provide best practice guidance for management of businesses and other entities to improve the way they are dealing with these challenges. COSO -- ERM integrates various risk management concepts into a solid framework in which a common definition is established, components are identified, and key concepts described. This enables COSO to provide a starting point for organizations to assess and enhance their Enterprise Risk Management.

Acceptable Risks by Charlie King about the 1957 Yucca Flats Big Smokey Atomic Test
Acceptable Risks by Charlie King about the 1957 Yucca Flats Big Smokey Atomic Test
This is clipped from the April 1983 Alternative Views program #188 April 1983:. THE WORLDLY WARBLERS: POLITICAL SINGERS. The song was written about a young Army corporal named Paul Cooper who stood with some 1100 other military personnel in August 1957. The soldiers had been flown to a desolate encampment near Yucca Flats without knowing why, and they would leave knowing little more than the official explanation: they had taken part in a test that was code-named "Big Smokey." to determine how troops would react under conditions of nuclear war. As the giant mushroom cloud began to disintegrate, Cooper and the others were ordered to walk to ground zero, where they marveled at the blanched earth and at the remains of the 700-foot steel bomb tower still glowing pink from the heat of the blast. Afterward each of the men was measured for radiation and returned to Fort Bragg, NC, to resume his Army career. In 1976, Cooper had retired from the service—a much-decorated veteran of three combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. He was soon diagnosed with leukemia and doctors there gave him no more than a year to live. When Cooper's physicians suspected the disease was related to the 1957 Army experiment, he applied to the VA for disability benefits—and was rejected. The government was not anxious to admit the link—in part, perhaps, because as many as 170000 people were subjected to similar experiments between 1945 and 1964. While Cooper was suffering all the debilitating side effects of ...

You are on cloud 9. You are ready to go lights-on in your new virtual data center. But wait: virtualization changes everything when it comes to security. Some gaps are obvious, such as the elimination of separation of duties, or the lack of visibility into the virtual network. Some issues are more subtle, such as temporal attacks against crypto. This talk will describe what gaps are introduced in the move from physical to virtual specifically where security is concerned, and prescribe specific steps to ensure security and compliance for production deployments. Specific topics to be covered include: •Recommend strategies for updating in-house security and compliance best-practices guides to incorporate and protect virtual infrastructure. •An analysis of the new virtualization threat surface and what new policies should be introduced to prevent, detect and control risks and violations. •Configuration of the virtual network for security and visibility, even over Vmotion and over VMware port groups. •Enforcement of separation of duties, least privilege and change management in the virtual data center (currently not part of most virtualization platforms). •Examination of the risks of VM Sprawl and establishment of programs and policies for managing this risk. •How you can guarantee your cloud implementation is even more secure than your pre-cloud analogue.

RIGGED: How Wall St. Killed the American Golden Goose
RIGGED: How Wall St. Killed the American Golden Goose
www.KensingtonAMI.com http www.DemandDestruction.net Are you getting tired of this? Are the Global Financial Markets nothing but a cruel joke? It seems that the once conservative Wall Street establishment has been hijacked by an arrogant and unscrupulous culture of high risk and high leverage. Markets seem to have devolved into nothing but volatile betting vehicles for an elite subculture of aggressive big money traders. How did we get here? Well, it all started in the mid 1980s when a relative few financial operators decided that the old fashioned way of taking risk and hopefully reaping gain was just not enough fast money for such fast times. Ever since then, the Professional Investment class wanted to show off really big returns so that they and their investors can pay for lavish jet set life styles. Investors generally don't like hearing bad news, so Banks, Brokerages, and Hedge Funds didn't tell them any. Instead, they and a myriad of other financial purveyors were happy to tell investors exactly what they wanted to hear that they can get them huge investment returns which they can supposedly produce, but others can't. How? Well, these days they have sophisticated formulas and "algorithms" and high speed trading software,,,, and because they're just so darn smart; so much smarter than you.... Problem is, they often can't really produce the investment returns they promise, and they often take much bigger risks than they claim to try to produce the returns they bragged ...

Dr. Harry G. Broadman on the Challenges of the Global Economy
As part of a continuing series of Bulletproof Blog™ video interviews with thought-leaders across multiple disciplines and industry sectors, I recently sat down with Dr. Harry G. Broadman, Senior Vice President of Albright Stonebridge Group LLC and Chief Economist of Albright Capital Management LLC, to discuss how multinational companies can best adapt to rapid changes in today's global economy. During our discussion, Dr. Broadman called attention to the ways in which the rise in global network trade, the increase in South-South commerce, and the emergence of rapidly growing large developing economies like China, Brazil, and India are driving new -- and unanticipated --forms of globalization. His assessment of these trends focused on how the competitive landscape for multinationals from the North is being fundamentally altered and how such firms need to adopt their risk-mitigation strategies. Dr. Broadman is a seasoned international trade and investment negotiator who has worked in all of the world's major emerging markets for more than 25 years. In his current positions he assists corporate clients design business strategies; assess commercial, political, and reputational risks; solve market entry, post-establishment, and exit challenges; negotiate investment and trade terms; and resolve business-to-state disputes.

Each Vaccine increases risk for AUTISM
Each Vaccine increases risk for AUTISM
Vaccines And Autism: The Secret That You Are Not Supposed To Know Each Vaccine increases risk for AUTISM - Dr Joe Mercola / Dr Russell Blaylock According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of children in the United States with autism has risen by 78 percent over the past decade. It is now estimated that 1 out of every 88 children in the United States has some form of autism disorder. Our schools are absolutely packed with "special needs" children and millions of parents are desperately trying to figure out why so many kids are having such severe developmental problems. Strangely, most autistic children start out perfectly normal. Most of them develop just fine for the first year or two and then something dramatic happens. So what could that possibly be? Well, there is a secret that you are not supposed to know. That secret is that vaccines are one of the primary causes of autism. As the number of vaccines being administered to our children has risen, so has the percentage of our children with autism. Today, in some areas of the United States more than 30 vaccines are being given to young children before the age of 3. When you inject so much mercury and so much other toxic material directly into the bloodstreams of vulnerable young children, bad stuff is bound to happen. The evidence linking vaccines and autism continues to mount, and yet the pharmaceutical establishment continues to vigorously deny that there could possibly be any link ...

Developing Forex Trading Strategies
Developing Forex Trading Strategies
www.ForexAutopilotRobot.com - Developing Forex Trading Strategies - First and foremost one has to accept the inherent risk that is contained within Forex trading, which means that one should tailor their strategy according to their specific risk profile. To this end the establishment of a Forex trading strategy is an absolute must, and will in all likelihood determine whether or not one achieves the success they are striving for within these financial markets. The Forex trading strategy essentially starts with the analysis of the market and underlying factors that will affect any given market, this too applies to stocks, commodities and related financial instruments, although each may be affected by different types of underlying factors, more relevant to the specific instrument under analysis. Although some recommend the demo account for Forex trading and getting into the swing of things, this can actually create a false sense of security, and one should practice and establish their strategies, but not for too long. This is due to the fact that a demo account is not real, and one will not make the same decisions, including emotional aspects with a demo account than that of a real money account. So by all means when testing a strategy do so with a demo account, but aim to start trading for real as soon as possible. In getting back to the actual trading strategy, the two main types of market analysis is that of technical analysis and fundamental analysis. Either form can be ...

Raw milk is a risk not worth taking. The benefits just don't outweigh the costs. If it had some measurable health benefit that we couldn't obtain some other way, that would change my perspective. Muslim Aid - CEO Syed Sharfuddin speaks at the UN Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction
Addressing the Third Session of the UN Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva on 12 May 2011, the CEO of Muslim Aid, Syed Sharfuddin, called on governments to adopt innovative strategies for disaster risk reduction. In his address to the Plenary, he said: "Governments should rethink how we can broaden the mandate of certain global measures to achieve better results. For example, the mandate of the international community under Responsibility to Protect should include measures for helping governments that are unable to prepare their people for natural or man-made disasters." Muslim Aid made a number of recommendations for enhancing investment in local action. These included the suggestion for disaster-prone countries to spend at least 0.5% of their GDP on disaster preparedness for improving the capacity of their people to be better prepared for disasters. Muslim Aid also called for the establishment of a global facility for technical cooperation in disaster management under the Global Platform for capacity building in countries that lack an appropriate response mechanism. Recounting the contribution of Muslim Aid in disaster mitigation and emergency response, Sharfuddin said: "Muslim Aid's Flood Mitigation Project in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, funded by Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) and managed by the World Bank after the 2004 Tsunami is an example of donors, NGOs and the host government working together to benefit people affected by disasters."

Life of children in the Agbogbloshie District of Ghana 2010
The Lifeline Street Children Project. With the ever-increasing phenomenon of streetism in the urban centres of Ghana, whose current number is estimated to be over 60000, with urban Accra alone hosting over 25000, poses a great challenge to our future survival as a nation, hence the need for a concerted collaborative effort by all stakeholders to stem this canker. It is against this backdrop that AGREDS in partnership with UNICEF, Children at Risk, Netherlands and the Local Assemblies of God Church established this project at Agbogbloshie in Accra to provide employable skills training, formal education, shelter, food and medicare for street children, mostly migrant girls popular called Kayaye and finally resettling/reintegrating them in their home communities to make use of the skills acquired for a decent living. Over 500 girls have been equipped with employable skills and reintegrated into their home communities since the establishment of the training centre in April 2002. As part of the resettlement programmes, about 60% of them have undertake a Peers Educators training prior to their graduation and facilitated through our Community sensitizations programmes to educate their peers at home on the risks associated with child migration. The operation was commanded by American Major General John P. Lucas and was intended to outflank German forces of the Winter Line and enable an attack on Rome. The resulting combat is commonly called the Battle of Anzio. The success of an amphibious landing at that location, in a basin substantially comprising reclaimed marshland and surrounded by mountains, depended completely on the element of surprise and the swiftness with which the invaders could move relative to the reaction time of the defenders. Any delay could result in the occupation of the mountains by the defenders and the consequent entrapment of the invaders.
